Beauty - present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory shape, color, sound, etc.), a design or else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).
Claiming - To take in a violent manner as if by right.
Punishment - suffering, pain, or loss that serves as retribution.
Release - a deliverance or liberation, as from confinement, restraint, or suffering.
Provocative words on their own. Combined even more so. Anne Rice's trilogy, penned under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure, perhaps not her best writing - for me that would have to be Lestat - is still erotic and stirring - erotic - yes, but in many ways more - with it's powerful imagery and powerful themes. An evolved plot, characters that weave. Intense, poignant, in places beautiful and serene in the images she invokes in the mind, in others - shock causing. Anne Rice's novels, especially the Beauty trilogy do shock some, but give a wonderful read to others. She uses her words well. As a woman, I find much of the Beauty trilogy erotic, arousing, and intriguing.
In the land of the 'free and the brave' however in some places, even libraries, these books cannot be found, they have been removed. Is that right or wrong? I do not know. What I do know is that places like second life allow us - many of us - to be what we are not in real life - allow our minds to explore in any direction we choose - for some (well for many - let's not ignore that Second Life is a hotbed of sensuality of sexuality - it is) to open to the baser instincts in all of us, and that might be a very good thing for many of us being better out than in perhaps. We would be stupid to deny that we all harbour darker thoughts, we do.
From the themes of the trilogy is Beauty's Awakening - a role play sim, that is developing some strongly themed 'play areas' based more closely on her books than, I believe, has been done before.
